Camp Carter

We celebrated Carter's birthday this past weekend, camping style! It was one of my favorite parties to plan and we had a great time during the party.

To start, here is the dessert table. Everything s'mores (except for the dirt cups, but they went with the theme, right?)

These cupcakes were Amazing! I made a variation of this recipe, but with this frosting!

A chocolate cake version too!

Can't beat Costco's chocolate cake and it was perfect for this party! Bunting was added by me.

For dinner we had a hot dog and brat bar, complete with Costco's huge hotdogs, cheddar brats, Italian sausage and keilbasa. Toppings included cheese, onions, banana peppers, sauted onion and peppers, sauerkraut, baked beans and bacon. Yummy!

The Decorations:

We borrowed picnic tables from our neighbors and ran a burlap runner with mason jar lanterns and licorice (Carter's favorite!).

Dusted off my Christmas trees for a backdrop for the camp signs the kids helped me make.

We set up a friend's giant tent to create "Fort Carter" where we had tables with crafts set up and later the kids watched a movie on a big screen.

Favors.

The kids and I went hunting for sticks in the woods by our house so we could create hobo sticks for all the guests. We filled them with flashlights, compasses, whistles, glow sticks and stickers.

Now, the party...

The kids loved the craft table where they made airplanes, caterpillars, butterflies and other creations out of clothes pins and pom-poms.

What do you do when have 50 ears of corn to husk? You turn it into to a husking competition for the kids!

It was close to 100 degrees Saturday, so pulled out the water slide. Thank goodness!

We did cake after Carter tried out his new go-kart, so he has his helmet on for all the pics. Love this kid!

The Big One...a Razor Go-Kart. He was SO excited about this (so were all his friends!).

When the sun went down we turned on the movie (Yogi Bear) in the tent. During some technical difficulty the kids put on a little dance show.

All-in-all a very successful and fun party! We partied until after midnight when the rain finally came!

Happy Birthday Carter!

We celebrated last weekend, but we couldn't let his real birthday go by without some celebration! We gave Carter his choice and he choose pizza at home with a Hershey's ice cream cake (Moose Tracks--yum!), a game of Ticket To Ride and then a movie and popcorn night. Good choice Carter.

I can't believe this little guy is already 6 years old! Anyone that knows Carter knows he is one-of-a-kind. He is one of the funnies kids I know. He seriously cracks me up all the time and not just in a silly kid kind of way, in a really clever make adults laugh kind of way! He is funny and tough, but he is also loving and kind. He is my guy that doesn't talk back and always has a hug for me when he can sense I am getting mad. He told me he learned in school today that he is special, and he is! We are so blessed to have him as a part of our family!

For the first day of school Carter was assigned to make an "All About Me" poster. Since it is his birthday, I thought this would be a good time to record what he put:
